Home · Merchants & business · Import–export credit guarantee
A guarantee that makes new trading partners possible.
Credit guarantees for member businesses: a buyer abroad gets the comfort that payment is covered, a seller at home gets the comfort that the buyer's default will not sink the business.
Availability: Phase 2, alongside international trade finance, through a partner guarantee institution. Terms will be published before launch.
Confidence for both ends of a contract
A credit guarantee is a promise by a guarantor to pay if a counterparty does not. For an exporter it covers the risk that the overseas buyer fails to pay; for an importer it assures the supplier that payment will arrive, which unlocks better prices and longer credit.
On eRupee the guarantee is attached to a contract between members, or between a member and a documented counterparty abroad. It is priced on the contract, the countries involved and the track record of both parties on the network.
A guaranteed contract can also be financed at a lower rate under trade finance or international trade finance, because the lender's risk is covered.

Upload the contract or purchase order with the counterparty details and the payment terms.
Assessment
The guarantee partner assesses the counterparty and the countries involved; our team runs the visual checks.

Claim if needed
If the counterparty fails to pay by the end of the waiting period, the claim is paid into your wallet.
Indicative terms
Every facility is priced for the member and the trade it finances. The figures below show the shape of the product, not an offer; your offer letter states the exact terms.
| Cover | Up to 85% of the contract value |
|---|---|
| Term | Up to 180 days from shipment or delivery |
| Fee | A one-time premium stated as a percentage of the covered amount |
| Waiting period | Typically 60 days after the due date before a claim is paid |
| Exclusions | Disputes on quality or quantity, breaches of contract by the insured, sanctioned countries |
| Currencies | Guarantee issued in the contract currency; claims paid into the wallet |
| Combination | Can be attached to trade finance or international trade finance at reduced pricing |
Risk, compliance and your protection
Guarantees are issued by a regulated partner institution; eRupee arranges, documents and services them, and pays claims into the wallet.
The covered amount, the conditions and the exclusions are written on the certificate; there are no cover conditions outside it.
Both parties' conduct on the network counts: a counterparty that disputes in bad faith loses access to guaranteed trade.
Frequently asked
Is this insurance?
It works like credit insurance for a single contract: a premium is paid up front and a claim is paid if the covered event happens. The legal form is a guarantee by the partner institution.
Can the guarantee cover a buyer outside the network?
Yes, with the counterparty's documents and the partner's assessment of that buyer and country.
Does the guarantee reduce my finance cost?
Yes. A guaranteed contract is financed at a lower discount rate under trade finance.
When does it start?
Phase 2, with international trade finance.
